Summer is only a few weeks away and East Texans know that it's expected to be very hot and humid, and after the strong winter storms we just experienced, your roof might need extra attention this year. Here are 3 Tips Homeowners can use to get their roof summer ready:
1. Start with an Inspection
You can do a visual inspection of your roof or call us to a free in-depth inspection for you. Look for any shingles or tiles that are broken, lost, warped or cracking. The hail and snow did a number on some of our customers’ roofs, and minor repairs were needed to get many of them ready for the summer!
These factors all impact your roof’s lifespan and can cause your shingles to dry out, erode and even peel. Annually, we recommend a roofing inspection to be performed by trained professional. Having your roof inspected at least once per year is a great way to detect roof issues early on before they become major roof repairs.
2. Fix Any Issues You Find
If you’ve found issues with your roof, don’t wait to repair it: do it now. The longer you wait, the more at-risk of damage your roof will be. Roofing work is complex, and at Cable’s Roofing, we don’t recommend you go the DIY approach with your roof.

3. Clean Your Gutters and Downspouts
Gutters and downspouts protect your roof, foundation and more. Your gutters will keep water away from your shingles so that they don’t rot or deteriorate. If you haven’t cleaned your gutters and downspout, summer is the perfect time to do it.
Leaves and debris will clog up your gutters, making it harder for water to channel into the gutters and away from your roof. Cleaning your gutters twice per year will allow you to keep your roof’s draining in proper operating order. Your gutters also play an important role that can easily go overlooked when inspecting your roof. Since your gutters channel water into them, they will often contain what are known as “granules” from your roof. These granules are added into asphalt shingles to help protect against sun damage. If you notice a lot of granules coming out of your gutter, this is a key indicator that your roof should be inspected by a professional. Summers in East Texas are known for averaging highs of 90°F+, with lows in the 70s. If your roof is exposed to these extreme temperatures with the shingles damaged, it can cause premature damage to your roof.
Inspecting your roof and repairing any defects is a great way to start the summer season with peace of mind that your roof is in good condition. Contact Cable's Roofing for your roofing repairs.
